Tiffany & Co., the jewelry store with the signature blue box and highly sought-after gifts, opened its 80th store Friday morning in Towson Town Center's luxury wing.

The 3,700-square-foot store will primarily focus on jewelry, but will also carry the company's line of sunglasses, according to George Getschel, director of Tiffany at Towson Town Center.

Inventory ranges from charms and silver bracelets for less than $100 to engagement rings and diamonds exceeding $100,000. Customers will also be able to order items from other stores, according to Getschel, a trained gemologist whose great-grandfather started the Albert Smyth Co.

The store features many of the same architectural details found in the company's flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York, which was founded in 1837. Polished white marble, and large glass show windows highlight the exterior. Inside, white oak and brushed stainless steel showcases evoke a luxurious feel.

Doors opened at 10 a.m.. Friday for the grand opening, which had a "Breakfast at Tiffany's" theme where customers were treated to coffee and croissants.

"They were very thorough in choosing this location," said Getschel, adding that the two closest stores are in Philadelphia and Chevy Chase. "People from the Baltimore area were traveling that far. There was a demand for it."

Tiffany & Co. joins high end brands such as Louis Vuitton and Burberry in the mall's nearly two-year-old luxury wing. Michael Kors just opened a store in the wing last week.

"The new luxury wing is the ideal location for a Tiffany store," said Getschel. "Its gracious atmosphere is consistent with our own store environment and the Tiffany experience of quality, design and service that awaits everyone who visits us."
