RCMP are investigating after $40,000 worth of diamond rings and other jewellery were stolen from a store in Swift Current, Sask., by four suspects.

The theft happened Sept. 30 over the noon hour at a jewellery store at the Swift Current Mall, the RCMP said.

Police didn't name the store.

Diamond engagement rings, wedding rings, and ring sets were taken in a "distraction fraud" where three of the thieves got the attention of store staff while the other one took the product, Sgt. Paul Dawson said.

"They distracted whoever was there so the other person could scoop up those rings," Dawson said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the RCMP's Swift Current city detachment at (306) 778-4870 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
